Consultant Psychiatrist Opportunities

Consultant Psychiatrist Opportunities

Positive Wellbeing Psychology Australia is seeking warm, experienced psychiatrists to join our expanding multidisciplinary team. We offer flexible consulting opportunities, delivered primarily via telehealth, with the option for in-person consultations at our Armadale practice. This structure allows you to make a meaningful impact in adult mental health while collaborating closely with skilled psychologists in a structured, evidence-based pathway.

As a consultant psychiatrist with our practice, you will:

  • Provide psychiatric assessments for adults presenting with ADHD and other mental health concerns
  • Collaborate with psychologists to review psychometric assessments and diagnostic impressions
  • Explore pharmacological treatment options, including medication initiation and monitoring
  • Deliver telehealth and in-person consultations to support patient access and continuity of care

This role operates under an independent contractor arrangement under a Services and Facilities Agreement, giving you the flexibility to open consultations when it suits your schedule. Positive Wellbeing Psychology manages all administrative tasks, payments, and provides a consistent referral stream, allowing you to focus on delivering high-quality care.

Multidisciplinary ADHD and Mental Health Pathway

At Positive Wellbeing Psychology, adults seeking an ADHD assessment follow a structured, multidisciplinary pathway. Psychologists conduct psychometric assessments, providing a detailed understanding of cognitive, behavioural, and emotional functioning. Following this, consultant psychiatrists collaborate with the psychologist to integrate assessment findings, discuss diagnostic impressions, and explore pharmacological treatment options where appropriate.

This collaborative model ensures a planned and streamlined pathway, allowing patients to access both psychological and psychiatric care within the same professional setting. By combining the expertise of psychologists and psychiatrists, our practice provides holistic, coordinated care that addresses assessment, diagnosis, and treatment needs.

Research demonstrates that adults with ADHD frequently experience co-occurring conditions, including anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorder, sleep difficulties, binge eating, mood dysregulation, substance use, and executive functioning challenges. Integrating psychological and psychiatric perspectives ensures a comprehensive and personalised understanding of ADHD and related conditions, supporting tailored, evidence-based treatment plans.

About the Practice

Positive Wellbeing Psychology provides psychological support for adolescents and adults presenting with a broad range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, relationship difficulties, eating disorders, poor body image, low self-esteem, and sleep difficulties.

Initially established as a psychology clinic, our reputation among local and interstate GPs highlighted the value of integrating psychiatrists into the team to support comprehensive assessment and coordinated treatment planning. This led to an evolving and growing team, extending from psychologists to psychiatrists, allowing for a multidisciplinary approach to diagnostic assessment and treatment planning to optimise patients’ clinical outcomes and quality of care.

We also offer comprehensive assessments, evidence-based interventions, and tailored management strategies for adults seeking evaluation for neurodevelopmental conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Our services support individuals with intellectual challenges, learning difficulties (such as dyslexia and dyscalculia), school or cognitive difficulties, and other neurodevelopmental concerns.

By combining psychological assessment with personalised interventions, Positive Wellbeing Psychology ensures a holistic and coordinated approach, helping patients understand their strengths, challenges, and treatment options.

Patients are referred through a variety of pathways, including Medicare mental health plans, AFL-PA, private health insurance, NDIS, and other professional referrals, providing accessible, multidisciplinary support for a wide range of needs.

About the Opportunity

Positive Wellbeing Psychology is seeking experienced, compassionate consultant psychiatrists to join our expanding multidisciplinary team. We offer flexible consulting opportunities, delivered primarily via telehealth, with the option for in-person consultations at our Armadale practice. You will work alongside highly professional psychologists and mental health clinicians in a structured, collaborative environment, with a dedicated space between patient consultations.

Multidisciplinary Assessment Pathways
At Positive Wellbeing Psychology, adults seeking assessment may follow several structured pathways:

  • Initial ADHD Pathway – for patients with suspected ADHD following psychometric assessment
  • Initial Dual ADHD and ASD Pathway – for patients presenting with overlapping ADHD and autism spectrum features
  • Initial ASD Only Pathway – for patients with suspected autism spectrum disorder requiring targeted evaluation
  • Initial General Mental Health Pathway – for patients without ADHD or ASD but requiring psychiatric assessment

Consultant psychiatrists collaborate closely with psychologists throughout these pathways, reviewing psychometric assessments and diagnostic impressions, and exploring pharmacological treatment options where appropriate. This integrated model ensures a planned and streamlined pathway for patients to access both psychological and psychiatric care under the same multidisciplinary roof.

Providing Assessments and Psychopharmacological Treatment (MBS Items 291/304)

Psychiatrists at our practice provide:

  • Adult ADHD psychiatrist consultations
  • Telehealth ADHD psychiatrist appointments for Victoria-wide or Australia-wide patients
  • In-person consultations at our Armadale practice
  • Psychopharmacological assessment and management under MBS Item 291, with follow-up review under MBS 304

Having a psychiatrist integrated into the team allows patients to be assessed and supported without needing to access external services, providing a holistic, coordinated approach to diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management.

  • Local GPs under Medicare mental health plans
  • Private health insurance
  • NDIS
  • AFL-PA
