What to expect with an assessment completed by a psychologist?

Our goal is to ensure that you have a better understanding of yourself and that you have the resources to make informed decisions about your mental health. Our psychologists may gather information from multiple sources including parents, teachers, and other professionals to ensure a comprehensive understanding.

Our psychologists understand that receiving a psychological assessment and diagnosis can be overwhelming, which is why we offer a feedback session to discuss the results of the assessment and provide you with the necessary support and guidance. The tests may take several hours to complete, but we ensure that our clients are comfortable and have breaks in between. Our experienced and qualified professionals will analyse the results of the tests and write a comprehensive report to provide information on the referral concerns and will also include recommendations for treatment or further evaluation.

What is the assessment process at Positive Wellbeing Psychology?

At the initial consultation, a warm and compassionate psychologist skilled in the assessment you’re seeking, will discuss your concerns and provide advice on the appropriate assessment pathway to provide insight into the specific referral concern. Depending on the referral concern, our highly psychologists may examine the following areas:

Cognitive strengths and difficulties (IQ): these are understood as a combination of verbal and visual abilities, working memory, reasoning skills, and processing speed that makes up an individual’s overall cognitive ability.

Academic skills and learning: Writing, reading, and listening comprehension, mathematics and problem-solving.

Executive functioning: Everyday skills important for learning and managing many life tasks e.g., example memory, self-regulation, attention, and organisation.

Adaptive and functional skills: Necessary for daily functioning, self-care, communication, coping skills, and socialisation.

Emotional and behavioural assessments: Useful for understanding challenging and oppositional behaviours, emotional regulation, and mood disorders.
