Common Questions
Frequently asked Questions
What type of psychiatrist role is this?
This is a flexible, independent contractor opportunity under a Services & Facilities Agreement, not an employee position. You set your own hours and caseload, choosing to consult in person at our Armadale rooms, via telehealth, or a mix of both. There’s no minimum availability requirement — you decide how much or how little you take on.
Do I need ADHD experience to apply?
ADHD experience is highly regarded but not essential. We welcome psychiatrists at any stage of their private practice journey, including those newly entering private practice. If you have demonstrated experience in adult psychiatric assessment and management, with or without a specific ADHD focus, we’d like to hear from you.
Can I work fully via telehealth?
Yes. You can consult with patients across Victoria or Australia-wide from your home or office using secure telehealth, with no requirement to attend the Armadale rooms in person. Many psychiatrists in our team work a mix of telehealth and in-person consultations, structured entirely around their own preference.
What are the MBS items relevant to this role?
Our ADHD Psychiatry and General Psychiatry pathways are billed under MBS items 291, 296, 302 and 306, depending on whether the consultation is a once-off assessment, an initial ongoing-management consultation, or a follow-up review. Telehealth consultations are billed under the corresponding telehealth equivalents (92435 for initial consultations, 91827–91831 for reviews).
How are patients referred to me?
Referrals come through a consistent, well-screened stream including local GPs under Medicare mental health plans, AFL-PA, and private health insurance. Many patients have already completed a psychometric assessment with one of our psychologists before being referred to you, so you’re reviewing structured findings rather than starting from a blank slate.
What qualifications are required?
You’ll need current AHPRA registration as a specialist psychiatrist and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), or an equivalent specialist qualification recognised by AHPRA. Appropriate setup for secure telehealth consultations is required if you intend to consult remotely.
